Eclipse with Cousins

Several weeks ago we traveled to mom and dad’s in NE to see the total eclipse.  And, because my brother’s plans changed, he and his family were there too!  It was a very short trip – I think we were there just over 24 hours – but it was so worth it.

We don’t see my brother very often – Wisconsin is quite a distance from CO.  So spending time with all of them was definitely the highlight.  James and Anna LOVE their cousins so much, Kenny and I enjoy spending time with Brian and Lindsay, and it was very hard to say goodbye.  But, we are so thankful for the time to make new memories together.

I’m so glad we made the trip to see the total eclipse.  It was amazing!  Originally, I wasn’t too excited about pulling the kids out of school for this after having just started the week before.  But in the end, Kenny was right – it was worth the effort to get there. We watched the eclipse from Lake McConaughy – all of the kids swam and enjoyed the beach and water again while we waited.  Slowly, the temperature dropped and the sky darkened to a really eerie kind of dark.  It wasn’t dusk, it wasn’t night, it was different. The pictures we’ve seen from those viewing the 98% eclipse were much different – nothing like being in the path of totality.  Viewing the eclipse from home would have been nice, but being in NE made it amazing.

We will never regret the time spent making new memories together with family.  So glad we didn’t let this opportunity slip by.
