The beauty of Fall!

Fall is one of my favorite seasons.  This year in Colorado we’ve actually had a fall which has been wonderful!  Often in this climate it seems like we skip fall and head right into winter, or skip spring and head right into summer.  But this year has been different.  The weather has been nice, the trees have been beautiful, and now, this week we’ve already seen a little snow.  Fall is coming to a close.

But for a few months, we’ve really enjoyed the cooler weather and all that it brings.  I’ve been cooking more with the oven which is a nice change after grilling so much in the summer, trying to keep the house cool.  And definitely my favorite part has been baking more.  (This is Kenny’s favorite part too.)  🙂  I’ve made quite a few loaves of sweet bread over the last few months: pumpkin, zucchini, and banana.  I give these as gifts to neighbors and family over Christmas, so now I have that all done, sitting in the freezer ready to be wrapped up.

We’ve also enjoyed a few nights by the fire pit on the patio.  We’ve made dinner over the fire, made Smores for dessert, and enjoyed the stars under the beautiful Colorado sky.

On one September day I brought out my big tub of fall decorations.  James and I were both excited; this was the first season he would help me decorate for!  As we set out pumpkins, hung wreaths, and laid out the fall tablecloth, James was more than excited.  This is the first day he used the word “pumm” for pumpkin.  Who knew that this would become one of his favorite words over the next few months?

Over the next weeks, he would DAILY walk around the house and point out all of the new decorations.  When Kenny would come home from work, James would start again just to make sure Dad saw what was new.  If someone came by to visit, he’d start in again.  It was very cute.  James is going to go nuts when we pull out box after box of Christmas decorations at the end of the month.  🙂
