Last October, after my Grandpa’s 90th birthday party, we drove with Mom & Dad back to Norfolk to visit Grandma Goodwater. We spent several days and had a great time. I’ve said this before, but it’s so special for me to make this trip with my family now. Staying at Grandma’s house with Kenny and the kids is extra special. I have so many wonderful memories at that house and I’m so glad my kids get to experience that too.
One afternoon Grandma got out her old square dancing dress for us to see. Wow. She and Grandpa started square dancing roughly around 1957, and went dancing monthly when my mom and her six siblings were young. G’pa & G’ma were part of a group of six couples (including my Grandma’s sister and brother-in-law) that danced together regularly and they continued dancing for about 15 years! Roughly around 1972, the group switched to a card club and they would meet regularly to play card games. This group stayed together playing cards for the next 23 years! Amazing. Around 1995, when one member passed away, the group of friends discontinued the card club but did continue to meet regularly to visit with one another. These six couples were all very good friends and their friendships were life-long. In all the years this group was together, there were never any arguments…just lots of good clean fun together. They even went on trips together and visited Branson as a group one time. What wonderful memories she has of that dress and of the people she knew during that time.
And, Grandma likes to watch Guy Lombardi on TV, so we all got into it one evening. I think the kids were fascinated by the old black and white show. They had a great time dancing to the big band music.
Thanks, Grandma, for another wonderful visit!
