James’s Library Card

IMG_1433

Today we visited the library and guess who got a library card?  This was the highlight of our day around here.  Actually, I was at the counter getting my card replaced after losing it, and decided to ask when youngsters could get a card.  “When they’re born”, I was told. So, I looked at James, he shrugged his shoulders (“Why not, Mom?”), and we got his card while we were at it.  He was beyond thrilled.  The librarian had quite a chuckle.

So, we spent the next two hours having fun.  We found 15 books and 1 DVD between both kids; we attended story time, and played on the computers as well as in the play area.  We really love the library near us – the children’s wing is wonderful.  At the self-checkout, James used his new card to check out his books and seemed so grown up.  Actually, he’s been checking our books out for awhile now.  After scanning your card, you simply place each book in the “V” of the scanner and the computer does it all for you.  In the children’s area, they have a step stool so the kids can do all of this themselves.

Anyway, when Dad came home tonight James announced he had a new credit card with a picture of Garden of the Gods on it.  Library card, credit card – about the same. Congratulations, James!  You’re growing up!

  1. Good for you James. A wonderful world opening up to you and you so grownup to have your own Library Card. Books are such a great source of entertainment, knowledge and comfort. I hope the printed kind will always be around -especially given the increasingly impersonal high tech world in which we find ourselves. xxxx A. Jenny

    • Oh Jenny, I couldn’t agree more. I have been a lover of books for many years and pray that my children will be too. We have books in almost every room of the house specifically so they will be available to the kids when the mood strikes them. In addition to the content of a book, I particularly love the way a book smells and feels while I read it. I have to have it in my hands. So, I too am dragging my feet about trying electronic books. 🙂 Love you!

  2. To James…What a big boy you are to have your own library card! I, too, hope you continue to love books all your life, like your Mom does too!
