Our Week

This has been a good week.  The kids and I have been busy and we’ve had so much fun. Attitudes and behavior have been fairly good which always helps.  And, to be honest, mama’s attitude has been better too.  Over the past months I’ve had many days where I haven’t been the best mama.  I’ve lost my temper, I’ve yelled at the kids, and I haven’t been too much fun to be around.  Those days are hard and they continually remind me of my brokenness in this flesh and my need for a Savior.  They are opportunities to ask my family for forgiveness which is extremely humbling.  Only in Christ’s strength am I able to get up the next day and try again.

All that to say, I’m grateful for the following pictures of fun and wonderful memories with the kids, but they are not always the norm around here.  I think that’s probably the case in most families, so hopefully we’re not too abnormal.

Practicing for the big game on Sunday!

On Monday the temps were quite cold and it snowed all day long.  It was a perfect day to stay in and get cozy.  The kids and I did do some laundry, but spent much of the day in front of the fire reading books, drinking hot cocoa, and watching a movie.  I love those kind of days and the kids are beginning to love them too.

We had two days of playing with friends which is always fun.  Our friend, Rachel, came over to play one day, and another, the kids played in the snow with a neighbor girl.

One day we made a car out of cardboard.  I hung onto the big box from Anna’s new car seat knowing it would come in handy one day.  And it did!  It became a “glass truck” per James’s decision – complete with a license plate, antenna, and steering wheel.  In the last photo of the next group, James said he looked so serious because he was concentrating on the road.

We visited the library again this week…I think we broke a record coming home with 22 books.  So much fun.  The kids are finally at an age where they could spend hours at the library.  Anna is still a little young, but watching big brother helps and she’s getting the hang of it.

Another highlight was having breakfast for dinner one night.  Kenny had an evening away from the house so we decided that was a perfect night for it.  The kids were so excited! While I cooked, they sat at the island and made cards for Great Grandpa Ed.  I’m always amazed at how content they can be coloring and playing with stickers.  Of course, with the promise of pancakes they probably would have done anything!

And, it’s also been a full week of hospitality at our house.  We SO enjoy having people in our home and usually have someone coming over on a fairly regular basis.  This week we were supposed to have three nights of guests coming.  One night we had a family from church over we wanted to get to know better, another night our small group was here, and tonight we were supposed to have an Olympic themed movie night with friends.  We ended up cancelling due to the piles of snow that accumulated here today.

Instead, Kenny came home early and we headed out to sled before dinner.  We have a great sledding hill just a few blocks away where everyone in the neighborhood congregates.  So much fun!  Sledding as an adult is much different than when you’re young.  It’s a good sledding run if the parents walk away without injuries.  And, so far, so good!
