Well, I haven’t been blogging lately because I came down with the flu. A real bummer. I started feeling crummy 12 days ago and I still am not 100%. This flu is nasty. Most of my symptoms are gone now, except for a cough, some congestion, and fatigue. I get tired very easily and am still hardly doing anything. Today I did two loads of laundry and then had to go sit down. I didn’t even fold the laundry – just gathering clothes and starting the washer and dryer. Crazy.
And, last week, Anna came down with strep throat and an ear infection. That’s the hardest part of being sick yourself – not being able to really care for your sick child like you want to.
Needless to say, Kenny has come through with flying colors. Was there any doubt? He has an incredible ability to juggle life. The week I was really bad, unfortunately he had lots going on. In addition to working when possible, he helped run lights for the ECA play (something he committed to months ago) and got our rental house turned around for new renters. In between, he played nurse doling out our meds and making sure the kids and I had food to eat. He gave baths, did dishes, and handled the grocery shopping and cooking. Thank you, thank you, sweetheart.
So, by the end of this week, I’m slowly getting back to normal. I desperately want to do so many things, but my body just isn’t cooperating yet. I can see why the flu kills some people every year. If you were weak to begin with, it would be that much harder to get well. I was healthy when I got the flu and still it’s taking me weeks to get over. The nurse said they are seeing anywhere from 14-21 days to feel completely normal again.
So in the meantime, I’ve been learning all about The Pioneer Woman and skimming a favorite book about organizing and cleaning your house. When I’m feeling good again, this house is getting a good cleaning and going through. I can’t wait. And, I’ve watched oodles of Pioneer Woman episodes, scoured her website, and have downloaded quite a few recipes to try when I’m back on my feet.
Yesterday, it felt like a heat wave, so the kids and I spent some time outside. I sat with a cup of tea while they played. And, they convinced me to have lunch outside which they love to do. Despite the piles of snow everywhere, it looks like we’re in the middle of summer!
So, there’s the update from us. More posts and pictures to come soon, hopefully. In the meantime, here’s your friendly reminder to wash your hands often to stay healthy!
Glad you’re on the mend, Jessica, but sorry to hear the flu hit you so hard!
I didn’t know PW had her own show? I don’t read her blog regularly, but I know she’s funny and she’s got some fabulous recipes.
Hope you have a good weekend.
Thanks, Carrie. PW has a show (called The Pioneer Woman) on the Food Network and I really enjoy it. Check it out in your spare time. 🙂
