Kenny left for four days last week to attend his grandmother’s funeral in Pennsylvania. We all really wanted to go, but at the last minute, plane tickets were pricey. So, we decided Kenny would go alone.
The day before he left, he spent the morning packing, reserving his plane ticket, hotel, and rental car, and we made time to take lunch to the park before he left for four days.
The kids do not enjoy when Dad is gone. I don’t enjoy it, either. Thankfully, it is rare that Kenny is apart from us. Our family works the best when we are all four together and I suppose it is good that we all miss him when he’s gone. We talked to Kenny on the phone several times a day and even skyped once. There were a few tears now and again from James and Anna, so mom had to find some creative ways to keep them busy.
We built a tent, had ice cream sundaes for dessert one night, did some baking, had a dance party, and ate lunch outside one day. While we missed dad, we still managed to have some fun.
Then, when Kenny flew home, we tracked his plane on the TV screen as he flew across the country. A great idea (thanks honey!) to show the kids that dad really was getting closer to CO!
