School supply shopping for me is a combination of a fun activity with my kids and a nightmare. Last year I had to hit three different stores to find everything on James’s very detailed supply list. While it’s fun getting everything for the start of a new school year, the running around and fighting crowds can be a little overwhelming.
So, after we returned from vacation, this task was looming over me and I wasn’t looking forward to it. I was contemplating buying everything on Amazon and calling it good. But, then one morning this week the kids and I got out their lists and actually found quite a few items we already had or that we could use again. Our shopping list was shrinking!
James and Anna were so excited by this time so we decided to head out to find the rest. On the way we prayed that God would help us be productive and efficient; that we would be able to find everything at one store. And guess what? We did! In a relatively short amount of time, too! I was amazed. God was so good to give us that small grace. He knew this mama didn’t have much patience and He was so kind to answer that prayer for us.
Matthew 6:26-27
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
God cares about the little details of our lives. He cares about school supplies. And He’s constantly blessing us. But sometimes with our blinders on we have a difficult time seeing the blessings. When we ask for them and look for them, He is faithful to deliver. Of course, sometimes the blessings don’t look like blessings to us, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are gifts from our Father. What a good, good Father we have!
Since we were on a roll, we decided to label everything and bag all the supplies too. So, the kids’ backpacks are packed, ready and waiting. It feels so good to have that task crossed off the list.
They were so excited with everything in their book bags ready to go!! Made me sort of wish I had a backpack…with 8 glue sticks!
