Confession: I do not stay on top of our mending very well. Recently we’ve had quite a few things pile up that need attention, and between staying on top of all of James’s cub scout patches that need attached, I’ve let the mending go. All of the clothes make their way to our office, but then they sit there for so long that they end up getting strewn about the room.
This morning I was trying to get into my file cabinet of music in the office to pull out Christmas books and I had to move my sewing basket, plus some clothes,plus other miscellaneous items to even get in the drawer. Clearly, this was not working. Right at that moment I remembered reading about a solution on my friend’s blog. I’ve mentioned Monica’s blog before, and recently I spent some time going back through her archives and reading past posts that I wanted to remember. This was one of them! A way to organize the mending.
I quickly pulled up the post and in under 10 minutes I had a basket for mending and everything corralled. My sewing supplies were already in a basket so that is working well. If you have time, read Monica’s post on this. It is all centered around Proverbs 31:21 and is so good. She mentions loving the Message version, and I agree.
She doesn’t worry about her family when it snows;
their winter clothes are all mended and ready to wear.
The Proverbs 31 woman is a prepared woman. Rather than sewing on a cub scout patch right before a pack meeting, I’d rather be prepared: have it finished in plenty of time so I’m not rushing around crazy at the last minute. Being prepared serves my family so much better than a frantic mama, and, results in far less stress for me.
So, I found a basket in my stash in the basement, copied the verse onto a tag, and added a ribbon. I pretty much copied Monica’s idea, but imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?
Now, to find a quiet evening to actually DO the mending.
