Skillet

A few weeks ago we drove to Denver and spent a little time with Jen Ledger, the drummer for the band, Skillet.  Jen is my brother-in-law Martin’s sister (Martin is married to my sister, Sheila).  Skillet is a Christian rock band and recently their world tour brought them to Denver.  We met Jen once, a few years ago at Christmas-time when we were in Wisconsin.  While Jen’s family are all from England, her home base is Wisconsin, near my brother and his family.

So, since Jen was so close, we decided to make the effort to get there to see her.  She graciously offered free concert tickets, but a concert starting at 9pm doesn’t work for our family just yet.  Give it a few years, and we’ll definitely get to see Skillet again – the kids really wanted to stay.  Instead, we attended the Meet & Greet, shook hands with the band and got our official picture taken with them.  Jen mentioned that if we hung out until she was finished, we could chat for a bit.  So, we went back to the gal’s dressing room and sat down with her for about 15 minutes.

We so enjoyed our time chatting with Jen and getting to know her a bit more.  And, we look forward to the next time the band is nearby.  The next day in his room, James taped up his signed picture, his wrist band into the Meet & Greet, and then other random pieces of paper he wrote “Skillet” on.  So fun.  Maybe some Jen Ledger signature drum sticks are in order for this young fan.

The kids have really enjoyed listening to more of Skillet’s music and watching some of their videos.  They now play “rock” which means they pretend to be members of the band, singing the songs and playing instruments.  I’ve printed the lyrics to Feel Invincible for James; he’s memorized much of the song and can sing it while playing his plastic, golf club guitar.  And today, both kids put on a TON of temporary tattoos (Christmas and Frozen) to look like the band.  James has snowmen and Christmas trees all over while Anna is covered in Elsa, Anna, and Olaf.  I love their imaginations in trying to mimic this band.

Check out some of Skillet’s music online.  One of their songs, Stars, is featured in the movie, The Shack, which came out recently.  Here’s the acoustic version of the song from the movie, and the official video which shows Jen in action.

We love you, Jen, and appreciate the time we had with you recently.  You have some serious fans in CO!
