September 2021

We celebrated our 17th anniversary on September 5th!

Even though Kenny is no longer working for Young Life, he continued to head up their softball team this past fall and enjoyed playing again.  While watching him play, I might have spent more time watching the beautiful sunset.

Anna continues to work hard in ballet class every week.

We spent one evening at a nearby carnival and the kids rode their first ferris wheel!

Anna playing Barbies

My parents came out in mid-September for Grandparent’s Day at Anna’s school, and to help us with some house projects and cleaning.  They were such a huge help and we greatly appreciated them helping us cross items off our long to-do list.

We closed on the new house that same week and the next weekend we put our house on the market.  We had fourteen showings in two days and were under contract by the end of the second day.  Things moved so quickly and we were beyond grateful.  While the kids were in school I continued to pack, and Kenny worked every day and managed contractors on the new house.  It was a busy, stressful time but looking back we’re amazed at how God worked out the timing of it all.

August 2021

To catch up on our fall happenings, I decided to work month by month.  So, here’s what we were up to last August!

Riding scooters in the rain

In mid-August, Pap-pap came to visit!  We really enjoyed our time with him.

A few days later, a good friend of ours who lives in the neighborhood we were eyeing near the kids’ schools, called to let us know her neighbor’s house just went on the market.  We scheduled a showing immediately and she offered to visit with the neighbors and shamelessly talk up our family.  We were one of only two showings that weekend and the only offer on the house which was amazing.  Of the thirty to forty houses we’d looked at, most had many showings and many offers.  This felt like a miracle and we believe God put a bubble around this house and saved it just for us.  We went under contract within a couple of days; about four months after we started looking at houses.  We were so, so thankful for God’s provision for us.

That same week we had a stager walk through our current home, an inspection on the new house, and James & Anna started school – definitely a whirlwind week!  The first few days of school confirmed we were to move – we were spending hours in the car every day.

James started 7th grade at a new campus!  It was definitely a transition moving from elementary school, but he’s handled it very, very well.  Having a locker to house everything versus a desk.  Having seven teachers rather than one.  Changing classes every period versus staying put all day.  The first few days of school James said his legs were tired just from walking all over the school every day – getting lost and finding where he needed to go.  Our school’s three elementary campuses all converge into one Jr. High and High School, so there are many more students now too.  There is much more to keep track of in Jr. High and James has done a really great job thus far.  Kenny and I are pretty hands-off this year with James and he has stepped up and handled the challenge well.
Anna started 4th grade in August and loves being an upper-classman now at her campus (4th-6th graders versus K-3rd graders).  After the first day of school, she sat on my lap for 15-20 minutes talking nonstop about her day.  “Mom, I’m surrounded by boys and it’s a nightmare. The boys I like, you know, the ones that listen and pay attention, are sitting all the way across the room!”  This new school year has been a big transition for Anna too – lots of emotions and lots to process.  She’s doing excellent in 4th grade and we LOVE her teacher.

Kenny and James also attended Colorado Springs Comic-Con (Comic Convention) in August – all things comic-related, video games, and movies.  James enjoyed taking pictures with the Master Chief from Halo.
The rest of August consisted of getting serious about packing up our house and continuing some projects to get it ready to list.  We also started scheduling contractors to do some work on the new house before moving in.  Let the fun begin!

James & Anna

James & Anna are doing well these days!  More on the specifics of what they’ve been up to in recent months will come soon.

A few weeks ago they were messing around with each other, I grabbed my phone to snap a few pictures, and this is what I ended up with.  I love it and continue to pray that they will be friends as they grow older and be a support for each other.  And, Google continues to manufacture these ‘Then & Now’ pictures of the kids which are so fun.
