Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

Last week we visited our local zoo and had the best time.  This year we purchased a family membership so we can go often over the next year.

The kids are at a perfect age for the zoo because there is a TON of walking.  The zoo is built on the side of a mountain, so lots of hills.  The kids are old enough to handle it now which is great.

I think I protested the zoo years ago…I had gone quite a few times with friends when the kids were very small.  I have memories of pushing a stroller up those hills, and nursing in the monkey house.  It was a chore in every way and I left exhausted every time.

I still left tired this time, but only because we spent over four hours there.  Since we have a membership, I suggested we stay until we were tired and then next time pick up where we left off.  But, the kids were excited and ready to go, so we walked the entire zoo and saw everything.

My sister called on Skype just as we were heading in, so we got to show Cousin Sienna the giraffes and zebras.  She loved it and James and Anna were so excited to share it with her.

So much fun we are looking forward to the next visit!

A few fun things from the day…Both kids picked out their animal print clothes to wear…Anna’s favorite animals – the “hang-a-tangs” (orangutans)…Anna heard me mention we had a membership to the zoo, so later told Kenny “Mom shipped us”.  When he asked her to explain, she replied, “You know, so we can go as much as we want!”
