Guys Weekend

A few weekends ago, Kenny and James took a boys trip to Austin, Texas for the Formula 1 race.  Our family follows Formula 1 a bit; the kids know the drivers by name and recognize their cars now.  Kenny has a co-worker and friend from Young Life in Austin who has offered multiple times for them to come down and stay with him.  So, a trip was planned.

Kenny and James had a blast.  The day they arrived included time to walk around the track and that night they attended the Imagine Dragons concert.

I told James that he could call me anytime and I was so thrilled when he called the first afternoon.  (He did say that Dad told him to call, but still.)  His voice sounded so little on the other side of the phone.  When the kids are with me it seems they’re growing up so fast.  Then when I hear them on the phone they sound like they’re toddlers again.  So funny.  Still, I loved hearing from that boy.  I always will.

The next day included qualifying, other practices and races, visiting vendors and walking the entire track.  They found some great Mercedes and Ferrari hats to bring home as souvenirs.

Sunday was the actual race with 112,000 people in attendance.

Monday, on the way to the airport in San Antonio, they made time to stop and visit the Alamo.

I’m so glad the boys were able to take this trip together and make some new memories.  I hope it’s the beginning of many guys weekends!
