James & 3rd Grade

James has had some exciting times in 3rd grade already this year.  I posted awhile back about the owl pellet dissecting they did – definitely a highlight for him.  Now, in a few weeks: eyeball disection.  Wow.  He can’t wait.

In December the entire 3rd and 4th grade presented a Christmas concert and it was very enjoyable.  James did a great job and we loved watching him sing.  (Picture quality is poor, but he’s in the top row, behind the microphone)

In November the 3rd grade help Viking Day – costumes, shield painting, a Viking feast.  These curriculum days are something the kids look forward to after studying each particular unit.

And finally, James finished a book report project last week on sharks.  Over a month ago the kids picked a vertebrate, found a book in the library, created an outline, wrote a rough draft and final draft, created a puppet of the animal, and then presented the book report in front of the class.  At this point, presenting in front of the class is no big deal because of the recitations they have every month.  Creating the report and puppet were more work for him, but he did a great job!
